It’s Married With Music, Season Two!

Cat and Steve love Christmas music, and this episode of Married With Music finds them talking up a storm about a whole bunch of their fave records for the holiday. They talk about the Pogues, Rufus Wainwright, King Diamond, Rough Shop, the Kinks, Aimee Mann & Michael Penn, Frank Sinatra, Darlene Love, and a whole lot more. Married With Music allows two long-time radio djs, music writers, occasional performers, and spouses to talk about the most interesting new and old records they can find. Steve and Cat Pick have been friends for almost twice as long as they’ve been married, and their range of musical interests is enormous. There is no guarantee they’ll like the same music, or if they do, it might not be for the same reasons. There is a guarantee they’ll share passionate, informed, intelligent, and lively discussions on all sorts of interesting recordings. Bonus for those in the St. Louis area – every show comes with highlighted upcoming concerts – This Week’s Picks – discussed in the inimitable Pick manner.

Episodes release every Wednesday along with This Week’s Picks.

About The Hosts:

steveheadshot5catheadshot1Steve Pick was born in North St. Louis County and quickly developed an affinity for records because he liked the way they looked spinning around on the turntable. He was especially enamored of The Music Man. Meanwhile, down in South St. Louis city, the future Cat Pick inherited plenty of records from her older siblings, falling in love with the likes of the Beatles, Carole King, Aretha Franklin, and the Temptations.

Years passed. Cat’s fandom went into overdrive when she saw the movie version of the Who’s Tommy. Steve’s life changed when he discovered New Wave and punk rock. He co-founded the much beloved fanzine Jet Lag in 1980, and in less than 2 years, Cat was writing for it as well. Steve and Cat spent many hours talking and arguing music while working on the fanzine, playing in bands (the Pelvic Marvels and Substitute Heroes), and co-hosting a local origination cable TV series.

Steve reviewed concerts and records for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 1983 to 1995, and for many other publications before and after. He was a DJ on KDHX community radio beginning in 1988, and Cat started there the next year. With a few years off in the back half of the nineties, both have been fixtures on the radio ever since.

After trying to get the Pelvic Marvels back together, Steve and Cat fell in love and were married in 1996. Many more discussions of music followed, and sometimes they even disagreed strongly about what they were hearing. In 2015, a lightbulb went off, and the married pair began holding these discussions in front of microphones, talking about new and old records in great detail. Thus was born Married With Music, the podcast with Steve and Cat Pick.
